A ramp card puts one or more cards into your mana zone. Examples of these type of cards are Sprout, Bronze-Arm Tribe, and Razorhide. These cards can quickly build up your mana zone and are crucial to playing your bigger and important creatures in your deck quickly.
High level creatures in the 8-9 range are intended to be used in these decks to take advantage of the additional mana.
These types of decks are generally heavily focused on cards from the Nature Civilization where these ramp cards are from. They also tend to use cards from the Water Civilization to draw into the bigger creatures and to offset the loss of hand from these ramp cards.
